For decades, Sykes Group has been a leading innovator in electric pump solutions. Recent leaps in technology, along with Sykes in-house innovation, has resulted in our most robust electric pump range.
Our breakthrough containerised Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) solution is a game changer for operational efficiency and safety and is a significant step towards decarbonising pump solutions.
READY TO GO ELECTRIC?
Why Going Electric Matters

Electric = Efficiency & Uptime
Electric motors with Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) allow the pump to operate closer to its Best Efficiency Point (BEP) across a range of duty conditions. When paired with climate-controlled, containerised VFD cabinets, operations can avoid tripping or overheating, especially in high ambient temperature environments.

Buy New or Convert Existing Diesel
You have flexibility to order a new pump configured electric or convert your existing Sykes diesel pump into an electric one. Wherever possible, retrofit options preserve your hardware and reduce costs.
Specs Snapshot (Example: XH250 Premium Range)
Parameter | Performance |
---|---|
Flow vs Head | ~200 L/s @ 220 m or ~250 L/s @ 200 m |
Solids Handling | up to ~52 mm among XH300 & XH250 models |
Materials Available | Stainless 316 SS, SG Iron, CD4MCU, SAF2205 / SAF2507, etc. |
Priming & Sealing Options | Automatic priming, vacuum, venturi; hard-faced cartridge mechanical seals; double volute design to reduce radial loads |
Containerised VFD & Extreme Environment Solution
Traditional VFD cabinets often struggle in the extreme heat, leading to frequent trips and resets. These interruptions force site personnel to undertake lengthy, round trips to manually reset pumps.
In response, the Sykes Group worked closely with a valued client in the iron ore industry, developing a containerised VFD system that transforms pump reliability under these demanding conditions.
By housing the VFD drive and all essential instruments within a dedicated container outfitted with integrated air conditioning, we can maintain optimal operating temperatures regardless of ambient heat.
- Keeps drive and control electronics within optimal temperature and protected from dust, heat and environmental stress.
- Dramatically reduces overheating trips / manual resets in high ambient heat or harsh environments.
- Increases reliability, reduces maintenance and improves safety. Less staff exposure for resets and repairs.

READY TO GO ELECTRIC?
Diesel vs Electric
Factor | ![]() | ![]() |
---|---|---|
Operability in Heat | Vulnerable to overheating, trips and manual resets | With containerised cooling & electric drive, more stable; less downtime |
Energy / Fuel Costs | High fuel consumption, cost fluctuates | More predictable energy costs; often much lower overall |
Emissions / Environmental Impact | High CO₂, NOₓ, particulates | Lower when using electric; supports ESG / decarbonisation goals |
Maintenance | Engine maintenance, fuel system, exhaust, etc. | Motor + VFD maintenance; simpler mechanical wear; fewer moving parts |
Safety & Staff Risk | More manual interventions, especially for resets | Less manual intervention; reduced exposure; safer operation |
