Sykes Group reported a successful project with our HH220i Pump Set operating in Kaikoura, New Zealand, on hire to NCTIR (North Canterbury Transport Infrastructure Recovery).

The Pump, with maximum head of 138m and maximum capacity of 282 L/sec has multiple purposes. In this application, it is being utilised to open the State Highway 1 between Kaikoura and Blenhiem, which are areas highly affected by the earthquakes.

The client’s objective is to build a concrete retaining wall of 1km along the highway. The Pump was commissioned to remove the ocean overflow off the road as quickly as possible to allow them to pour concrete between tides, within a challenging time frame.

NCTIR called Sykes Group team due to Sykes ability to deliver hard to match high volume pump, to keep up with the influx of water quickly enough to allow our client to pour the concrete. Due the Sykes strong market reputation and willingness to meet the urgent requirements of this demanding project , NCTIR made a decision to proceed with our equipment.

Additionally, our technical specialists designed and built a manifold adaptor to allow NCTIR site team to drain the water source down to around 60mm in depth and efficiently pour the concrete for the ocean wall. Once the HH220i has moved the bulk of the water, a smaller Sykes pump will be utilised along with this manifold allowing individual 2” Suction lines to be placed in the low areas to reduce the water to less than 60mm.

Sykes Group dedicated team continues to work in conjunction with client site operations to ensure the project is delivered in time, safely and with a focus on quality whistle committed to continuous improvement.
