HELLA Australia has chosen leading mobile lighting brand Allight as the national roll-out partner for the next generation of its ground-breaking HypaLUME® LED floodlight.

The launch version of the 240w HypaLUME® produces 22,053 effective lumens per lamp, and is rapidly becoming the LED light of choice for mobile Minespec towers following its success in fixed lighting applications and on vehicles.

Eight lamps can be mounted on an Allight MS-9 mobile lighting tower, and the market-leading 176,424 lumens they produce provides enough light for many operating areas of a mine or civil construction project.

The second generation of HypaLUME® could produce up to 50% more light per lamp. Not only will the breakthrough make LED the most efficient and economical option for virtually all the operating areas of a mine, the development will open up the LED space to Allight’s lighter and more portable Metrospec towers.

The success of LED in mobile lighting applications stems from the huge efficiency and economy gains it brings to mining and construction projects.

With its new Perkins 2 cylinder 500cc water-cooled engine, the Allight MS-9 fitted with HypLUME® lamps needs refuelling only once every three weeks. They also come with extended 500 hour service intervals and deliver an 18t annual carbon footprint reduction compared with standard metal halide lamps.

HELLA and Sykes Group share a long history in Australia and the engineering, procurement and supply chain alliance has raised the bar in terms of mine efficiency and productivity.

After exhaustive testing in tough mining environments, full scale production of the Allight MS-9 LED towers got underway in July. Pre-launch demand forecasts indicated that around 500 MineSpec towers will be needed to meet the first wave of demand. That’s likely to change when the new generation of HypaLUME® opens up the construction and municipality sectors.

Sykes Group Director of Worldwide Sales & Marketing, Paul Sowerby said:

“We tell ourselves that this business is all about analysing the customer’s needs and devising a solution to meet them. Normally, assessing a product’s growth prospects is a bit hit and miss, but right now in the LED space with HELLA by our side, the biggest head-scratcher we have is to how to make the towers quick enough. Needless to say, that’s not a challenge we mind having to juggle with.”

HELLA Australia Fixed Lighting Manager Craig Middleton said:

“This outcome is clear proof of the engineering and technical capabilities of HELLA Australia. We are confident that we have been able to customise the next generation of HypaLUME® with a number of modifications and improvements specific to Allight Sykes’ requirements. We have also committed to future product development in conjunction with Sykes Group, to continue improving and adapting the HypaLUME® to meet market demand.”
