Bringing a dam back to life

Lending a hand to our clients in achieving their environmental goals is just another way we continue to impact the community! Earlier this year, Apex Envirocare acquired CP6 and CP150i pumps from Sykes Group for the purpose of assisting in the process of rehabilitating a working dam and restoring it to its former capacity and functionality.

Apex Envirocare is a wholly owned Australian company that specialises in innovative solutions to a variety of water related problems, doing so in an efficient and cost-effective way. In order to rehabilitate the dam, the company was appointed to safely remove solid waste to extend its working life, while not taking the dam off-line. The process starts with removing the highly saturated sediment using one of their dredges and then, due to the long distance involved, using the CP150i pump to boost the high solid content waste into their GeoPro Desludging Tubes. A flocculent is then added to the mix, causing the sediment to clump and settle within the tubes while allowing the clean water to return to the dam through innovative earthworks along with an added boost from the CP6 pump.

Our robust pumps assist in meeting the environmental objectives of this project with savings in energy and water whilst eliminating unwanted spin-offs. Territory Manager, Tim Kelly, comments;

“Our client used Sykes Group Contractor Range pumps to help rehabilitate a dam on their worksite. The CP150i pump has been used as a booster pump from the dredge which has performed well assisted by being able to pass solid particles up to 77mm. The CP6 returns the reclaimed water to the pond, utilising a two-float system that is automated on the rise and fall of the water levels. This is a fantastic example of how we have utilised available pumps options to maximize efficiencies.”

How is the dam doing today?
It’s in the continued process of returning to life! Both pumps have been on site for just over three months and running efficiently. There are already signs of active microbial action in the dam which were not there before Apex Envirocare started indicating that the pond is returning to its natural state. The client continues to commend us for the positive impact our pumps have had in assisting with the smooth operations of their project.
